Amanda Knox Freed

Today Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend were let free today in Italy after 4 years in prison. This is a good thing because all the evidence was contaminated and her first trial seemed like it was held in the court of media and public opinion and not in the actual court room. A man named Rudy was already convicted for the murder of her roommate so it was only right to let her go.

I was interested in this story because I have my paralegal degree and I couldn't understand how a court could handled so messy. They were swayed by the papers and didn't conduct evidence gathering correctly or did they secure the crime scene. I'm just really happy for her that it was over turned. She is the same age as I am and I couldn't image being in a foreign prison for 4 years for a crime I didn't commit. Now all they have to do is get her out of the country which may be a little difficult.

Then after about 90 days the prosecutors can appeal to a higher court and try to get a new trial. If she is already back in the USA I don't think she'll willing go back for it. But the US and Italy have a treaty to extradite so its not totally over yet but at least she's not sitting in a prison.
